The Creation “Museum”
By bk | May 28, 2007 7:07
Homer Simpson said “Good things don’t end in -eum, they end in -mania, and -teria” and I think it realy goes for this one. A lot of folks are talking about this one, so I won’t repeat, but point out Pharyngula’s collection of articles and comments on the topic.
What I haven’t seen yet is this sneak peak at the Creation Museum. Which is a pretty detailed tour of what the “museum” has to offer. My favorite part:
Most exhibits are taught through video instead of large signs filled with text. This was obviously done to attract a crowd that doesn’t enjoy reading (probably much of today’s society).
Which I guess just about sums it up - Ken Ham was smart enough to realize that his patrons aren’t so smart, and obviously won’t tolerate any reading.
On a different but related note, the Washington Post has a bit about religious literacy or lack thereof:
The United States is the most religious nation in the developed world, ….. Americans are also the most religiously ignorant people in the Western world. Fewer than half of us can identify Genesis as the first book of the Bible, and only one third know that Jesus delivered the Sermon on the Mount.
I am concerned that we are not dealing with ignorance of religion or science, but a general ignorance and apathy of the average American. The average American who votes no less.
