Dawkins on O’Reilly
By bk | April 23, 2007 19:57
Richard Dawkins was ‘interviewed’ by Bill O’Reilly (YouTube link) on the Faux News channel tonight. I put interviewed in quotes since, though I didn’t time it out, I think O’Reilly talked more than Dawkins. Dawkins shows his character with calm responses, and it took some cahones to show up on a show that is undoubtedly antagonistic.
My favorite part is when O’Reilly interupts Dawkins to point out that humility is a Christian virtue, then proceeds on his arrogant rant on how Dawkins and atheists are causing the downfall of civilization. O’Reilly, predictably, pulled out all the standards: science can’t explain how the universe started, recent history’s most terrible tyrants where atheists (mentioning Hitler, Stalin, Mao and Pol Pot - the usual suspects), and finally claiming the founding fathers where deeply religious - the common mistaking of a deist point of view with a Christian point of view. In less than 5 short minutes O’Reilly hits all the flawed arguments against non-belief, while not allowing Dawkins to respond with more than a few words.
Watch the video - if you were from outer space (yet somehow, amazingly, knew English) you might think O’Reilly doth protest too much.
